According to the article 1, nowadays engineering has to counteract many intricate and formidable challenges related to the daily life and work of humans. One of them is to solve the problems of pollution. Actually, pollution problems have been prevalently threatening our world for a long time which can severely degrade the living environment unless an optimal solution is made immediately. Acid rain, smog, gradually smelting iceberg at the poles, and global warming are the performances of the polluted globe. In this regard, conserving and refining the environment are the new missions of the engineering in this century.
First of all, concerning the environment is the next step in the growth of engineering and technology. In the past, engineering only focused on the creating machines which made work easier, and then engineers upgraded their products to satisfy different needs of humans which include convenience and safety for clients but not for surrounding yet. Therefore, the evolution order will require our modern engineers to revise the engineering creatures which have not harmonized with the environment yet.
Another difficult challenge of engineering is to solve the problem involved to the energy consuming, handling with exhaust, and discovering a novel kind of energy safe to environment. The excessively arising population is becoming the main factor which increases the number of energy consumers. In fact, fossil fuel has been the most favorite and popular kind of energy that is economically feasible. The more there are oil consumers, the more air is polluted. Oneday, people can die of lack of fresh air before oil sources are used up unless there is a freshly alternative kind of energy.
Finally, I want to emphasize that the target of engineering field is not only to create new technical machines and robots but also to make the human life more safe, sustainable and healthy. Thus, creating new machines harmonizing with the environment is a big mission of engineers in the twenty first century.

In my opinion, pollution is one of the biggest concern for not only the engineers but also the people all over the world. Those points you mentioned are very important. The development of the world has changed the concept about engineering. Nowadays, the engineers have to solve not only problems which are related to the profession but also daily problems such as polllution. That is the mission for engineering in the 21st century.

I agreed with Nam's context on the environmental pollution generated through out the century. In the past, engineers indeed invent lots of tools to ease human's work, but environmental pollution was not taken into account. Therefore as time passes, the seriousness of curbing environmental pollution come into notice, which is now a challenge for engineers.

Next, as stated by Nam that there is an increase in the consumption of fossil fuel globally, this has generated a large extent to the air pollution. Thus, engineers will be required to exploit for alternative and yet environmental friendly type of fuel for consumption.

Lastly, I will like to say that although engineers need to solve the problem in the pollution area, they will have to convince the people globally first. As new invention usually failed due to the lack of support from people or they are too expensive for people to change their choice of usage, thus people will be unwilling to change. Hence, engineers challenge will not only to create a pollution free environment, but also to make their inventions economically at the same time in order for people to accept them and change for the better.

Nam has made it clear that environmental pollution is the most important thing for the engineering profession. Engineers are not only here to create new inventions for the sake of making life easier for the people but also to take into consideration either to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels or to use another type of energy source that can be recycled.

In conclusion, engineers play a very important role in the development of the world. They are here to improve the lives of the people and the society and we should give them our support as one of the challenges they face are the people who resist new technologies.

Nam has placed emphasized on the importance of global warming where it has always been a threat to the world population. He also pointed out on the gradual melting ice at the iceberg which is due to the effect of global warming. These factors really need the attention of the engineers to look into and to come up with a solution. It is because if these problems are unresolved, it will affect the future generation in years to come. Another point, Nam had brought out was the increasing in population which leads to an increase in the amount of energy consumer. This would indirectly burn more fuels and pollute the environment further more. Therefore, I believe that the engineers are facing a wide range of challenges that are waiting to be solve by them.
